Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, the military operation against insurgency in the North-East, have stopped three Boko Haram terrorists, who disguised as Internally Displaced Persons, from infiltrating a camp in Bama, Borno State.
Our correspondent learnt that the three bombers, while attempting to break the military checkpoint, detonated their Improvised Explosive Devices and were killed.
According to the army, troops of 22 Brigade on Wednesday reportedly intercepted the fake IDPs at about 6pm, and thereafter recovered weapons such as two AK-47 rifles and two magazines with several rounds of ammunition from them.
Also, the troops of 151 and 202 Battalions of 21 Brigade, Nigerian Army, in Operation Deep Punch, on the same day laid an ambush for the terrorists along the Firgi-Pulka Road in the Bama Local Government Area.
It was gathered that the troops recovered one General Multi-Purpose Machine Gun and one motorcycle, after shooting dead one of the terrorists.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, said, “The troops intercepted the Boko Haram terrorists disguised as IDPs, while trying to infiltrate a barrier. They engaged the suicide bombers forcing them to hastily detonate their suicide vests. The troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines with several rounds of ammunition and other items. The troops’ action saved what would have been another evil machination of the terrorists to inflict heavy casualties on soft targets.
“Also, troops in separate but coordinated attacks simultaneously on Wednesday laid an ambush on unsuspecting Boko Haram terrorists along Firgi-Pulka Road. We engaged the terrorists in a heavy fire causing them to abandon their weapons and flee with gunshot injuries.”
