The Nigerian Army on Sunday said some Boko Haram terrorists were ambushed while smuggling food into the Sambisa Forest area, during which two of them were shot dead.
The Deputy Director, Army Public Relations and 7 Division Spokesman, Lt. Col. Kingsley Samuel, who confirmed the development, said the terrorists were ambushed by the Mobile Strike Teams of Operation Lafiya Dole, the military operation against the insurgency in the North-East.
Our correspondent learnt that the terrorists attempted to smuggle the foodstuffs into the Sambisa Forest through Mayanti village in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, at about 10.45pm on Friday.
The army said they recovered two bags of maize from the dead terrorists, while others fled with gunshot injuries.
Samuel said, “Our resolve to eliminate the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists yielded another result, when troops successfully ambushed unsuspecting terrorists attempting to cross into Sambisa Forest. We killed two of them, while several others escaped with gunshot injuries. We also recovered two bags of maize from the ambush site.
“The MSTs particularly in Bama since their inauguration by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, into the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole, have been a potent deadly force engaging and neutralising the terrorists in several areas.”
