The Peoples Democratic Party in the South-East on Monday
endorsed the party’s zoning arrangement, which zoned the office of the
President to the North.
The decision was taken at the PDP South-East Zonal Executive Committee meeting in Enugu.
South-East PDP equally backed the zoning of the office of the party’s national chairman to the South.
In a communique released after the meeting, PDP Vice
Chairman, South-East, Chief Austin Umahi, the South-East PDP reiterated
its “commitment to national unity” and also “reaffirmed the party’s
earlier agreement on the zoning of party positions allotted to the
South-East in respect of the forthcoming elective national convention.”
In the same vein, PDP governors and National Assembly
members from the zone were mandated to liaise with the other
geopolitical zones in the country to reach an understanding towards the
emergence of the party’s next national chairman.
Umahi also disclosed that the zonal leadership of the party
would support its governorship candidate in Anambra State, Mr. Oseloka
Obaze, and his running mate, Mrs. Chidi Onyemelukwe, in the November
gubernatorial election in the state.
